The Alaska Frontier Trapper's Association Inc. would like to award scholarships.


*Scholarship for women to attend the 'Becoming an Outdoors Woman' workshop. This scholarship is available to women ages 18 and UP only. Please send a typed, double spaced essay of 100 words or less explaining why you want to become an outdoor woman please email this essay to the address listed below.

Applicants can choose to turn in essays through e-mail or snail mail. The addresses are contact us for an e-mail address and AFTA Inc. P.O. Box 3208 Palmer, AK 99645. The winner will be announced before the workshop.

Alaska Frontier Trappers Association Academic Scholarship Program

Alaska resident and Mat-Su Borough resident or AFTA Members and immediate family members of AFTA an members statewide.

Who may apply:
You must be in currently in high school or currently or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

Application period:
September through March

Selection period:
Committee to meet in April
Annually in May - Awarded for following school year (or semester)

Submission requirements:

Cover letter (see second page)
2 letters of recommendation (from non-family members)
Copy of: GED or HS diploma / HS transcripts or College transcripts
Acceptance letter the college

Value of annual scholarships:

1 @ $500
1 @ $750
1 @ $1,000

General information:
Applicants may apply annually.  Checks for amount of award will be issued in selectee’s name to college or university being attended.  Scholarships are awarded annually and may be used for tuition, books or living expenses at any university, college or institution offering accredited courses and degrees.  Statement of the Committee is final and cannot be appealed.

Opening Paragraph: State the field of study that you are going
into, what scholarship you’re applying for, and mention how you

Middle Paragraph: State why you are deserving of this scholarship
and if possible, reference activities, awards, and/or work
experience that relates to the scholarship. Some scholarships ask
for specific information to be addressed in the cover letter. This is
where you would put that information.

Closing Paragraph: Refer the reader to your enclosed application,
résumé, transcript, etc. and thank them for taking the time to
review your application.
